2560 x 1080 with HDMI/DVI?

Hi. I've seen some customer reviews on Amazon for the LG 29UM65 claiming that you must use a displayport cable to achieve the max resolution of 2560 x 1080. I didn't think this was the case and I thought that this resolution could be achievable with an HDMI or DVI cable at 60 Hz/FPS. If anyone can get back to me knowing if this is the case then I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance
