I recently bought a 290x and I'm looking at maybe getting a 1440p monitor. I currently have a 24inch 1080p benq.

I would get it around June (before I go off to college). I think that having a higher resolution display would help with the engineering programs I would be using (3ds max, etc). Am I right to assume that?

My question is, is it really worth it for me to get a 1440 monitor? I found a nice 25 inch Acer for >$270 on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00QS0AKVK/ref=mp_s_a_1_25?qid=1422810927&sr=1-25&pi=SL75). I'm sure it would be even cheaper around June.

Am I better off getting another 24" 1080p monitor, a 1440p monitor, or will one be good enough for (engineering in) college?

Hello,

More working space is always better, but be sure its DPI value is not too big for your eyes: the pixels are smaller on the new monitor comparing with your existing one, so any font/image will be smaller. If you think a bigger DPI will be a problem, go with an 27" 1440p monitor.
