2600k on MSI z77a-g45 can't overclock past 4.5 ghz??

I'm running at 4.5ghz stable. Ran prime 95 for several issues with temps not exceeding 68 Celcius at full load. If i try to increase the clock multiplier to 46 or above My computer will not post no matter the vcore. It sits at a black screen and reboots until i reset the settings in the bios. Any ideas what i'm doing wrong?

The G45 is not known for its overclocking potential. Your board is probably limiting you.

What PSU do you have?
What are your full specs?

2600k on the mentioned motherboard, antec 700w psu, 8gigs of 1333 ram, two reference HD 7950 cards in crossfire. I'm using an evo 212 air cooler. All.this is in an antec 1200 case

Good temps for an EVO by the way.

Anyway, WHICH EXACT Antec power supply? I think you may be slightly under-powered with 2 HD7950s in your system. But then I need to know your EXACT PSU.

I'll have to dig around later to find the exact model but I do remember it having 39 amps on each 12 volt rail. Was concerned about it working with the two cards but haven't had an issue yet. Lol..it MAY be a 650watt antec green power. Yea, the evo has surprised me as I've seen other temps and mine seem to be pretty good. The antec 1200 has like 7 fans plus I've got a total of 2 on the cooler to bring the total to 9. I'm planning on water cooling the CPU and both gpu's so it would be cool if I could figure out why I can't go past 4.5ghz although I'm pretty happy with the speed of the system. Haven't had anything really bog it down yet.

Other than Borderlands 2 issues with AMD cards, nothing will bog it down yet.

Wouldn't go above 4.5ghz/1.3vcore on air.

Anyway, the gains from above 4.5ghz aren't worth it. There's really no need for the extra voltage you put into your CPU for 100-200mhz.
