2600X or Hold Off?

Hello folks,

Should I soon pull the trigger on a 2600X, B450 Mobo, and DDR4? Or... wait until Zen 2? Anyone else in a similar situation?

My current specs;

- i5 2500k @ 4.4GHz
- GTX 1070 (Gigabyte G1 Gaming)
- 16 GB DDR3 @ 1600 MHz (Corsair Dominator)
- Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB
- QHD monitor w/G-Sync at 144Hz

Also, would I expect much from selling the 2500k/mobo/DDR3 combo (~ $150 or so)?

There is always going to be a better system on the horizon, the AM4 socket will be relevant until at least 2020 so if you upgrade now you can always swap your CPU our in a year or two.

The i5-2500k is a great cpu even to this day. If you hold off for the next generation of Zen processors, you'll notice a bigger improvement than if you went to Ryzen now and it would be better worth your money.

I'd be more wondering whether to wait on a 9700K/9800K/9900K or get an 8700K now...

The 2600X is outperformed by ~25% in min/avg fps on BF5 beta compared to the 8700K...and the 9700K and above are likely to be faster yet...

Thanks for the input, people. I was hoping to catch some good deals during the 2018 black Friday/cyber Monday sales, or Christmas season. I've been running this current CPU/Mobo/RAM since 2011! Lol. I do see the benefit of waiting until Zen 2. If I went with Intel, my budget only allows an 8600k/9600k option. My preference is to try AMD this time around, but we'll see.
