For those of you waiting for 266FSB Tbirds, TCcomputers told me today they just got some in: 1GigHz at $266, 1.2 Gigs to come later

You don't need a class c comp to get the FSB up, just connect L1 bridges with pencil. It is safe and easy. Then change multiplier settings.
BTW some people may not know this but there are class c processors out there... I have one. I just bought a 1.2GHz Tbird and it had the L1 bridges closed, and when I started it on my KT7A-Raid it went to 9*133 multiplier settings by default.
Oh yeah and it was only $305 - 50 dollars more than the 1 GHz you listed, so I wouldn't get the 1GHz. Mine was OEM however and did not come with a HS/F, which I bought for an additional $18.

From what I've been reading, everyone who has gotten a 1.2GHz T-bird has been saying that it's unlocked! Not really too surprising - after all what reason would AMD have to lock the 1.2GHz cpu (it's not as if they sell a faster cpu)?

This is the second post from danny indicating he has a Tbird 1.2g 266MB fsb processor - yet he has not shared where he got it from. Someone starved for attention? Greedy? C'mon Danny, if it's true, come out with it!

I emailed a sales rep at TC Computers this morning. He said that the 1.2GHz 266FSB AMD CPU's are in stock. He said they would be put into the system this afternoon or Monday at the latest.

Yes. He said the price in his system was $315. I suppose you could go ahead and call and order one since the website isn't updated yet.

That represents a $53 premium over the 200MHz version ($262 on pricewatch.com today)!

Makes you think twice about just buying a 200MHz FSB 1.2GHz T-bird. As far as I'm aware, they are all unlocked, so it should be a snap to OC it up to 266MHz FSB.

A 20% premium for the "official" 266MHz FSB version is outrageous! If TC Computer's price is indicative of what others will be charging, I say go for the 200MHz FSB T-bird, especially since it's not locked. Other than the part number, you won't notice any difference on a KT133A board...

There is a flaw in your and pvsurfer's posts. There is no 20% premium for the 266MHz FSB. You need to compare apples to apples. Go check out TC Computers and you will see that they charge $300 for the 1.2GHz 200MHz FSB. They say the 266MHz FSB version will be $315. That is a 5% difference. If you compare TC Computer's prices to those on PriceWatch, you will see that in general, TC sells CPU's for a higher price. So you cannot for sure say that TC's price is indicative of what others will charge. You could say that the 5% difference may be though. And in that case, I would absolutely go ahead and buy the "official" version.

The "20% premium" is based quite simply on the very limited availablilty and price of the 1.2 C-part (only at TC Computer as far as I know) vs. the general availabiltiy and price of the 1.2 B-part.

UNTIL one can actually buy a 1.2 C-part for only a 5% premium over the 1.2 B-part (regardless of whom you buy from!), I believe my comment is completely valid.

Pricewatch has two other vendors listing 266MHz FSB 1.2G T'birds:

Spartan Technologies
OEM 200MHz FSB $279
OEM 266MHz FSB $294 (ETA 2/13)

PC Progress
OEM 200MHz FSB $284
OEM 266MHz FSB $294 (ETA 2/15)

I'd say a $10 - $15 premium is well worth the sacrifice.

You based your statement on "IF the TC price is indicative of other's price". That's a huge if considering that all companies do not sell products for the same price. Just go check at PriceWatch to see that. So the only thing you have to compare is the difference between prices at the SAME company (5% at TC's in this case). Anything else is far-fetched at best.

But then again, who cares? :)

I know your not getting the $50 difference (20%) from the $266 in first post and the $305 in the second post. If you are I want to tell you to open your eyes and note that the $266 is for a 1GHz and the $305 is for a 1.2 GHz.

Someday I will stop asking all the questions!
