27" 144hz monitor: Only showing 60hz option!?

I have purchased a new ASUS VG278HV 144hz monitor and I cannot set it to display 144hz! I have it connected with a dual link DVI cable and I tried changing refresh rate in windows display options and in the nvidia control panel.

Both applications only showing 60hz as an option. Also, should say that the graphics card I am using is an MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X

EDIT: I'm an idiot and had it plugged into an adapter DVI to DisplayPort but now that I have solved that issue, whenever I try to change to 144hz it tells me that I'm using the wrong cable...to use the dual link DVI that came with my monitor. I didn't get one.......
