27" gaming monitor poll

i want to get a new monitor for my asus 7850 card and i put a few together. i plan to hook up the pc, a cable tv box, and a gaming console so 3 digital connections are needed. figured i would hook up the pc via display port unless i can find a dual hdmi monitor with display or dvi. these are all i could find on newegg.com with 3 digital inputs

i could probably live without 1 port if the monitor was that good a recommendation and just swap out cables or use the vga as needed

Wow. I though this would be a interesting topic. Anyway it seems that the 2 asus models are identical other than the webcam on the vk. So its between that and the samsung which is $80 more. Is it worth 80 more?

I too was deciding between the 2 Asus monitors and the Samsung that you mentioned, though I was also looking at the S27B350H (Just bought the 550V actually). At one point I think I was looking at a BenQ but I ruled it out for some reason (not sure why, sorry); never looked at an NEC.

The Asus and Sammys are pretty close runners.

The only difference between the Asus monitors is the VK has a webcam.

The only differences between the Sammys I was looking at are, the 550 has 2 HDMI ports (the 2nd acts as an MHL port for connecting a mobile device), 2x 5W speakers, and I believe it has 3.5mm audio input and outputs.

(Just did a quick search. The BenQ is a VA panel (the others above are all TN's) and some have complained of ghosting).

So here's how I came to my decision... All my computer part purchases tend to be long drawn out decisions. A few months ago, I narrowed it down to the VE Asus. At that point I hadn't seen the Sammys that we're discussing now, and what I was reading online, it seemed that the Asus and existing Sammys were pretty close depending on which models you were looking at. So I chose the Asus because it was VESA compatible and were LED backlit. Now these new Sammys are out, and are VESA compatible, so why'd I choose the Sammy? Well, honestly I just know the Samsung brand better than Asus. A large part of their business is display tech (TV's, monitors, mobile) and I always like their displays (current monitor is a Samsung). And honestly, I haven't seen an Asus display in person. I wish I could give you better reasons than that, but that's pretty much it. I trust Samsung.

Now why the 550V vs the 350H? Well that will come down to what you want. THey're the same panel, but I felt that I could make use of the MHL port, and connect my Galaxy Nexus to my monitor. If you don't plan on using the MHL port, or the built in speakers, save the 50-70 bucks and get the 350.

thanks for the info and post. im not interested in the b350 at all i think the asus ve278q for 319 with free shipping and no tax will be a better fit fo me. (3 digital inputs) it ships overnight to my location so ill be getting it this afternoon. although i did see the s27b350h in my local costco yesterday for $289, but i was not impressed which led me to my decision to go asus.
