i want to upgrade to a 2700 or a 2800
which is faster for gaming

At the first order, an Athlon 2800XP provides more performance than a
2700XP. Remember, the numbers are AMD's performance rating vs a Pentium IV.

Tom's Hardware has done performance testing on a bunch of CPU's.
