How good is a 270x Toxic? I was looking at Cards around 250 to have room to buy a Mouse and keyboard and things like that, and of coursr the winter sale. I was planning on upgrading next year, Maybe to a 290 since prices will hopefully be down then.

the 270x/7870ghz(pitcairn) performs nowhere close to a gtx670.... there is the 7870LE(tahiti), which is right below a 7950... and the 7950 and 670/760 are in the same ball park of performance. the 270x is no slouch for 1080p... but doesnt come close too keplar/tahiti performance.
The 270x is designed for 1080P gaming and performs around the same level as a GTX760. I gotta say the Sapphire Toxic Edition in that black and orange color scheme is an awesome looking card. Especially with that back plate.

I think prices are going to fall sooner than later. Nvidia's new Maxwell cards are projected to ship in March. They should be substantially faster than the current generation which should drop prices on the current high end cards.

Do you think this card is a good buy? Should i buy it and upgrade next year?

Should i go for something better? I'm planning to upgrade next year when i have more money, will this serve me well i guess is really my question. But this allows me to spend some money on other things i need.

Sappire Toxic r9 270x is enough, a bit better than other r9 270xs as it is a toxic version. You could have gone for hd 7950 or something better, but having other components is also impotant then spending everything on cpu or gpu. If that allows to upgrade things like ram, monitor, psu, etc.. then r9 270x will be okay. So yes, r9 270x will serve you well considering it's price.
But if you are getting toxic around $275, then adding more $25 and getting a 280x will be better option really.

Well 280's and 7950's are extremely hard to find at the moment.

That's because of their overpricing. But I think waiting for few more days is the solution for them. But if you can afford r9 280x then wait for it to get in it's original price again otherwise r9 270x should do fine.
