I have an intel i7-2600 3.4 ghz 16 gigs of ram, 550w psu dell xps 8300. I currently have AMD Radeon HD 6450. which sucks. I want a new gpu, I cant decide what to go for. I want a card that can last another few years alongside my gpu playing games at high settings with good fps. The 280 seems like the best choice. Can it work with my current system and psu? Is there an nvidia counterpart thats cheaper?

the r9-270x is just a factory overclocked r9-270. the r9-280 is much faster. the r9-270 is slightly faster than the gtx660. the r9-280 is slightly faster than the gtx760. for the price, the r9 series is more bang for your buck. there is quite a big price difference between the $180ish 270 and the $250ish 280. thats really up to you on how much you are willing to spend. i dont really find the 270x that attractive since you can manually overclock the 270 past the 270x clocks anyways. either way, the r9-270 will give very good performance at 1080p with high enough settings in all games.
