Looking to upgrade my graphcis card and just needed some advice on the performance increase going from the 270X to the 280.

My current build:
FX6300
8GB Kingston HyperX
CX750
HD6670

Price difference between the two is only about £22 but I'd rather save a bit of money if the performance increase is minimal. My current monitor has a resolution of 1440x900 so I don't suppose the extra 1GB VRAM on the 280 is going to do much for me.

Games I will be playing:
Titanfall mainly
Sims 4
Battlefield 3/4
Civ 6

The r9 280 is identical to the 7950 boost .

As per AnandTech : which is offering a product between a full Tahiti (280X/7970) and a full Pitcairn (270X/7870) with pricing to match, while also serving as the standard lower tier bin for salvaged Tahiti GPUs. This marks the 3rd such release for the 7950, first being released in its vanilla 7950 form, then in its 7950 with Boost form, and finally now as the R9 280.

R9 280 will run these games 5-15 FPS better. Personally I think it's big difference for £22 and you should consider to save some money and get better GPU, which you will use at least for few years I guess.

These are the benchmarks for some games you listed , your mileage may vary however it gives a general idea for the performance difference .

Clearly the R9 280 is better however is it worth the extra money ? It's up to you :)

Thanks, I wasn't sure if the performance would be that great due to my resolution. Can't justify spending anymore to be honest as I barely get time to play after work this should last me a year or two.

The 270x is £119.99 and the 280 is £242.00

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, 5-6fps doesn't seem that much to me and it would be nice to save some money as Christmas will probably wipe me out lol

I don't know where are you shopping but here's the R9 280 * for just 138 Quids

Prices are from Amazon which includes next day delivery. If the price of the 280 is still £142 I'll go for that.
