I am looking into getting a 270x as a replacement for my 6670 gddr5.
Would my power supply have enough power for one of these cards?
And are there any better cards for the 150$-200$ range? Thanks

Athlon 760k@4.5ghz 1.45v
Seasonic s12ii 430w

It might, but I surely wouldn't recommend. I know it's a very good PSU and all (specially from Seasonic) but you always want a bit of headroom.

Here's a very good site to check the needed wattage: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine
Do realize that those are the BARE minimums of safety 😛.

Edit: By the way, here's a good PSU for a great price: http://www.amazon.com/XFX-Wired-Bronze-Power-Supply/dp/B004RJ8EKI

The problem with PSUs is usually QUALITY rather than quantity - even high-end single-GPU systems rarely draw more than 400W. The recommendation for 500+W is mostly due to the large number of sub-par PSUs in the field and on the market.

Indeed, I think everyone understands your point. The problem is, if for some reason there's a spike in wattage consumption, the 430W PSU, no matter how good it is, will have a hard time, possibly causing a crash.

Since Seasonic are one of the most stable psu's on the market I wouldnt be afraid to throw an R9 270x at it

A very nice point, don't get me wrong, it might just be me, but I'd never trust on such a small margin to keep my whole PC running. As they say: "Better safe than sorry".

Good point.

Update- Borrowed a 760 off of a friend to test out my psu and worked like a charm.
Decided to push things a little bit harder so tried power level at 115% and furmark... Still not a problem stable as a rock (While running Prime95)
So at this point curiosity was killing me so i put the 6670 and the 760 into my motherboard. Loaded up the 6670 with bitcoin mining and the 760 with furmark at still stable. (While running prime 95)
Safe to say a 270x or even a 280 would be fine with my psu?
