Friend is trying to install a 2800 Athlon in an MSI K4 board. Problem is that it only shows as a 2200? He's using DDR running at 333, would DDR400 fix the problem? BIOS has been updated and will run this chip.

Cheers,
Len

Is his FSB set to 166? If its at 133, that would explain the difference.

Spec:
Intel P4 2.4B
MSI 645E Max-U Mobo
1GB DDR333
R9600XT 128MB
SB Live 5.1
WD 60GB
Maxtor 120GB
LG DVD+-R/RW
WIN2K PRO SP4

I'm guessing like the last guy that it's set at 133MHz FSB when it should be 166. Motherboards usually use clock speed in BIOS, not data rate, the data rate for 133MHz FSB is 266MHz, and for 166MHz it's 333MHz, using any Athlon processor.

MSI K4 doesn't exist... Probably MSI KT4.

Make sure FSB is set to 166MHz
