My original 280X had to be RMA'd due to a fan sticking and stopped working properly, so I go back to useing a 8800GT for a while.

one month later i get the replacement (seemed new) MSI 280x. Inside of games it works fine as far as I can tell, but randomly when on the desktop it will do some horrible flickers. Running latest drivers (14.9) 35 degrees at desktop and NOT overclocked at all.

Any idea on a solution? I really don't want to wait another month to RMA this one too.

I have a powercolor R9 280x and I get flickering in game playing DOTA. It's a complete PITA. It also runs like one hot mother. I've experienced one or two momentary black screens as well and the fans go to 100% then it settles again. It does it very infrequently so I just live with it at the moment. My view is likely very biased but I'm not impressed with the 280x at all. I don't think the performance is worth the almighty heat and power draw. The only way I got mine relatively reliable is reducing the power usage in MSI afterburner to about -8.

I should have added, this doesn't happen with a 8800GT so the motherboard and monitor isn't to blame

The website i bought it from put me on hold from 5pm - 6pm, after this they said they close at 6pm so i haven't been able to find that out. But on the last 280X i had there was no other option but to RMA it and get a replacement...which lead me to this problem with the new card. Not a great experience with 280Xs!

That wouldn't be as much as a problem as this, due to this happens mostly at desktop and rarely in games.
