Hi

My PC

CPU: fx8320
MOBO:ga970a ud3
PSU: 600W zalman 600LX - bought 2 days ago
HDD: 320gb
RAM: 2x 4gb
MONITOR: samsung 24inch
GPU : HD4850 512 mb ram 😛

Im upgrading my GPU. I can get used 280x for 200euro ,used r9 290-reference for 220 euro or the new gtx 960.

im playing in 1080p , i can OC but id rather not and i dont plan on buying new GPU for the next 4 years. AA doest play big role in my gaming. What GPU to take? Will 290 work with my PSU?

TNX for advice guys

Solution

For 1080p..all these cards are great. I would get the 290 (if its only a few euro more). The 290 is about equal to the 970 on the Nvidia side. You will be able to use the 290 for gaming for the foreseeable future.
Your PSU should be fine (you'll be...
The R9 280X should be similar in performance to the GTX 960, and will should be roughly the same price if not cheaper. However, your processor is very power hungry, and along with a greedy card such as the 290 might draw a little too much power for your PSU to survive as long as it should. I would settle with a stock clocked R9 280X and maybe upgrade to a R9 3XX in the future, if you are willing to upgrade the power supply.

Hope I've helped!

A R9 290 would be a tight squeeze on that power supply as it is not a high quality one.
I can not recommend the R9 290 for your system.

These benchmarks suggest that the R9 280X and GTX 960 are about the same on performance, however if the price is close I would go with the GTX 960. The lower power consumption and Dynamic Super Resolution support will be very handy to you. http://videocardz.com/54401/nvidia-launches-geforce-gtx-960

It`s really hard to give you any real answer until we have the exact price and performance benchmarking of the GTX 960.

All that I can say is that you should stay away from reference R9 290 cards, since they get very hot and very loud.

Wait for GTX960 and then decide, new 9XX series is very power efficient which means u will have lot less problems with these cards and the expected performance of a GTX 960 is in between 280x and 290.

I'll repost this link for everyone. http://videocardz.com/54401/nvidia-launches-geforce-gtx-960
Very clearly shows the GTX 960 and R9 280X are similar in performance at 1080p. However dynamic super resolution is a massive advantage that you get with the nvidia card. http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/dsr
It lets you render a game at a higher resolution such as 2500x1440 and then shrink it down on to your monitor.
Makes things look a lot better and means you can turn off anti aliasing.

I honestly do not think your power supply will be able to handle the R9 290 for the next four years. If you want the R9 290 you are going to want to set aside a bit of money for when you hit issues with that power supply some time in the future.
