290x plus 25um55-p equals freesync?

I've seen lists of freesync compatible monitors but they don't include the LG 25UM55-P despite it supporting displayport 1.2a. I'm looking to upgrade to the r9 290x or gtx 970 which is a difficult decision but if I know I can use freesync with the 290x then that makes things easier. As far as I know, all you need is the necessary GPU, displayport 1.2a monitor, and the driver from AMD. If so, then wouldn't my setup work? Am I missing something?

Yes you are missing something, the monitor must support Freesync firmware wise, if your monitor is not on the list Freesync won't work.

That seems like something that LG could release an update for but that's probably unlikely. Bummer. Thanks for your help.
