Heya folks,

I am going to be building a PC that I will use for streaming, productivity and by my friends to game on when they come over. I was wondering what would be better between the Ryzen Threadripper 2950x or the 2970wx. I know the core count and thread count are different (16c/32t VS 24c/48t). I will be using this PC to power either x1 Ultrawide 35" G-Sync 3440x1440 120hz or x3 27" 1440p 144hz. I am going to wait and see how the new Ryzen 3950x does in September and may even consider that.

Thanks in advance,

the 2970wx of course, but even for streaming and productivity, that is a little much. You would be a lot better off going with an i9 9900k or even an i9-9820X. Also, take in consideration what gpu you are going to use, unless your gonna use an 2080 ti, your gonna bottleneck your system

Oh I completely forgot about bottlenecks. I will probably have a 2070 or a 2080 in it. So you would recommend a 9900k or a 9820x?

A 2970WX is not going to bottleneck a 2080 let alone a 2070, especially where OP is going to be gaming at such a high resolution. A couple years down the road, the upgrade path for a 9900K is nowhere, while a threadripper CPU could be compatible with 64 core SKUs.

Didn't think so. I will probably go with a Threadripper due to price to performance and future proof/upgrading. I should be able to get an x570 and then be future proof for ages
