I have a Player in my camp, I just granted him a manor on 5 acres of land
for completing a chapter of the campaign. I looked in all my 2e books (and
even a few of my 1e) but could find anything on how much money this type of
land could A) yeild and B) cost to maintain. I'd like to know:

1) How many hirelings he would need to maintain the manor and land
2) How much he shoud pay these hirelings monthly
3) How much food could be produced off the 5 acres.

Thanks all!

5 acres... One in all honesty. 5 acres isn't a big hunk of land really. The
PC could really do it himself

1 CP? Isn't that the normal going rate? More if you want him happy.

Depends on what your growing

1) Depends entirely on what the Lord of Manor wishes to have upon his land?
Does he wish to have a personal blacksmith, armorer? Does he wish to have
an permanent Messenger available at all hours? Would he require a hunter if
or Game Warden to keep tabs of his boundries to avoid poachers? Does he
want a stone mason around to make sure the foundation and walls are still
sturdy... and so on.

The first edition DMG prices were as follows for certain Standard
Hirelings: (D = Daily and M = Monthy wages)

Bearer/porter D:1sp M:1gp (These are laborers who will carry whatever is
directed. Each is able to carry up to 50 pounds individually, or double
that with a carrying pole or litter or the like)

Carpenter D: 3sp M: 2gp (additional cost is 10% of the normal price of
items fashioned by the hireling)

Leather Worker D: 2sp M: 30sp (additional cost is 10% of the normal price
of items fashioned by the hireling))

Limner D:10sp M:10gp (These individuals do all sign painting, drawing of
heraldic devices, etc)

Linkboy D:1sp M:1gp (Is a torch or lantern bearer)

Mason D:4sp M:3gp (Any stonework must be done by a mason, and this
included plasterers as well)

Pack Handler D:2sp M:30sp (trained in loading, handling, and unloading
beasts of burden)

Tailor D:2sp M:30sp (additional cost is 10% of the normal price of items
fashioned by the hireling)

Teamster D:5sp M:5gp (Teamsters are basically drivers of carts and wagons.
They are expert animal handlers with respect to their particular specialty
of draft animal only)

Valet/Lackey D:3sp M:50sp (Body servent and messenger)

Armorer M:100gp*

Blacksmith M:30gp

Weapon Maker M:100gp*

Jeweler-gemcutter M:100gp*

* Cost does not include all remuneration or special fees. Add 10% of the
usual cost of items handled or made by these hirelings on a per job basis.
i.e., an armorer makes a suit of plate mail which has a normal cost of 400
gold pieces, so 10% of that sum (40 gp) is added to the costs of
maintaining the armorer

There is also a section of mercenary hirelings to guard the manor when the
Lord is away on an adventure and to keep things in order as well..

2) Look on page 114 in the Player's Handbook under Hirelings (the pricing
is rather broad in explanation on the last paragraph, but it gives you an
idea of what to look for in payment). Plus the DMG states that a hireling
with an excellent score in a proficiency (i.e., Agriculter - Farming) may
allow him to reap better hauls, and thereby should be paid accordingly if
successful for the month.

3) This all depends entirely on what the Lord of the Manor wishes to
produce?

I hope this was a helpful start on what you were looking for. Journey well
and travel safe!
