2gb ram for windows 7 starter

Solution
Hi

Do you mean you added a second 1GB DIMM or a 2GB DIMM
Some chipsets /bios on netbooks only accept max 2GB either 1x 2GB or 2 x 1GB

my MSI Wind (Advent 411) has a bios option to disable the on board ram and use a faster rated 2GB DIMM

please give make & model of laptop

Does your laptop supports 2 GB sticks?

The 929MB is probably because you have an integrated graphics card, so it's using part of the memory. So it's like 1024MB -minus what the integrated card needs (assuming it sees only 1 GB Ram from the start).

Could be defective memory, but most probably a non compatible issue, either from the laptop itself, or from that specific RAM you chose. But you would need to provide more information, laptop brand & model, and RAM brand & model.

Solution

Hello,:hello:

Yes, there are some laptops which are limited to 1GB with windows 7 starter even though you install a 2GB module. Eg. Some of the Acer Aspire One models are so. I'd suggest you to change the OS edition like Home basic and then check the amount of memory. Also check if your laptop supports more than 1GB of memory else let me know the laptop model name and number.

Good luck.
