$2,000 Capturing and Editing build: 1800X vs 7700K vs 6850K

I'm looking to spend around $2K on building a PC that will mostly be used for Capturing, Streaming, Content creation and Editing video. I'm at a loss for which parts to choose.

I'm not sure which CPU to choose now that AMD has the 1800X. And I do plan on running a GPU (either 1080 or 1080TI or dual GPUs if that is worth it), but I am not sure which choice is best. Will most of the load be handed to the GPU so I'm better off spending more budget on the GPU? And will losing PCI lanes cause me problems in the long run? And do I worry about onboard graphics on the CPU?

I need to put at least 1 capture card in the rig. I honestly don't care about the case aesthetic. I would like to have more than 1 capture card, but if that doesn't fit into the build cost, I can add one later. I would prefer PCI capture card. But I also need multiple USB 3.0 ports, an SD card reader. I would like to have USB C as well.

And I would want to run as much RAM as possible. Standard SSD over M.2 because it doesn't seem like performance/$ is worth it yet.

Does anyone have some suggestions?
 
So... The case is here. It's massive (to me). Much bigger than what i had ever built in.
I moved the door to the other side and took side panels off to see how it all functions.

I am confused though.
Do I need to buy cable? I assume the M.2 goes direct onto motherboard (on back side?) But then how do the other 2 drives connect? Does the Mobo or drive come with cables?
This case has a ton of drive bays... How would all of those ever plug into a single motherboard?


I am still waiting on a bunch of parts including Power Supply, So I can't really start the build, but I want to have an idea of my workflow/build flow plan. But I want to make sure I have/ordered everything I need to get the rig up and operating.
 
The M.2 drive connects to what is listed in your mobo manual as the M.2 Port. It should look like this: http://images.hardwarecanucks.com/image//skymtl/MOBO/Z97/Z97-11.png

The rest of the SATA drives connect to the Sata ports, on the right side of the board.
If you already have the mobo, CPU and cooler you can mount those and install just fine.
Most mobos support heaps of sata devices, for those power users that have heaps of stuff they need to store.
You should only need a few drive bays normally.
By the way, when you have an M.2 device it takes over the bandwidth of your first sata port, this will either be numbered 0 or 1.

I was more confused about the cables for the drives. Will the Mobo have them included? Or do I need to buy additional cables?

Do you think I should remove a drive bay since I will only be utilizing 1 of the bays? The case manual said the 2.5 SSDs have a spot on the backside of mobo mount between side panel.

I will be sure to leave 1st SATA open for M.2 use. Thanks.
 
The motherboard will have the SATA data cables included, yes.
There are edged ones for vertically mounted drives if needed or tricky locations and flat ones.
They look funny and have slight bumps on top of them.
The power supply will have the SATA power cables, you can typically link two devices up to one cable with two connections stemming from it.
Yes, remove the drive bay if you don't need it, and use the edged power connectors I was talking about for those SSDs.
 
Believe it or not, the Superbiiz shipments arrived today.
So the CPU and Power Supply are here.
I'm just missing the AM4 cooler adapter now.

AND the Wifi/bluetooth card. But I am having issues with the merchant not shipping it so I may have to either re-purchase it from elsewhere (I think B&H had it) or do you have suggestion for another card? For some reason when I looked I couldn't find it for anywhere near the price listed originally unless I went with the shady merchant I did. And now I am regretting it.

Oh and also waiting for the 1080TI to even arrive in their stock before I can get a shipment... Amazon still hasn't even charged me for it because they aren't charging until it ships.
What are your suggestions for a card to use until that one ships? Should I get a 750? I hope to only use it for a very brief period until the 1080 arrives. Is it better to stick with Nvidia since I'll be going with the 1080TI? Or does it just slap in and not really effect anything else or need added software/sync to run optimally so it won't matter which brand I choose?

I will probably give it until the weekend to hope the adapter and monitor arrive. Then get some pics and video and unbox it all and get to starting the building process. I'm just basically going to follow the instructions on each parts manual and try to look similar things up on YouTube if I get stuck. I'm mostly concerned with the wiring... I am pretty good at following wiring diagrams and using harnesses when everything is labeled well and I know what harness and connectors are for what, but I have no idea how easy the Powersupply and Mobo connections will be. That's my biggest concern. Knowing what goes where and in which order to install in and run cables so I can make the runs of wire look as clean as possible and be able to service parts without having a tangled mess.

I'll try to document the build as much as possible. Your help has been greatly appreciated! I apologize for the length and amount of posts.
 
Can't find this card anywhere. I can find a 4.0 version of it but not the 4.2 updated version. SuperBiiz (or BiizOutlet as I called it) has it out of stock. OutletPC has it listed at 69.89. I think $69+ for that card is too much.

Also, do you think I should get some AS5 thermal paste for the cooler? Does the cooler come with paste already on it? Will I have better results if I scrape that paste off and apply new AS5? If so what it the best method of removing the factory paste so I cause the least amount of microscratching as possible? A solvent? applied with what?

The cooler comes with Cryorig's own thermal paste which is pretty good.
It should come in a little sachet, apply about a pea sized drop of thermal paste, don't overdo it.
Removing thermal paste should be done with isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth.
Just put the cloth to the lid, tilt it upside down still holding the cloth to the lid, then put it right side up again, now your cloth is ready to remove the paste.

I would say wait until the 1080Ti actually arrives, it'd be a waste of money to get a temporary GPU just to set up stuff given stock is coming in faster because of higher yields on the processing node and lower demands, not like the 10 series release where yields were low, and demand was through the roof. It should come into stock pretty fast.
Power connectors are pretty simple.
Connect one end into the power supply, connect the other into the device.
Usually goes as follows:
1x 24 pin = motherboard main power
1x8 pin (optional, might be on your board) = additional motherboard power for OCing, not necessary half the time, but good to have.
1x 8 pin
1x 6 pin for your graphics card.
Fan cables connect to sys_fan headers on your motherboard which can be controlled through the mobo BIOS, set to the quiet or low preset for optimal acoustics imo, airflow is still solid.

Sata power cables connect to the power supply, SATA data cables go to the motherboard headers (second slot onwards).
CPU cooler goes to the CPU_Fan header.
That's pretty much all the connections I can think of, easier than it sounds. 😛
 
I wanted bluetooth also. I use it with my mice and other things. It would be nice to have if I can find one.


That sounds pretty easy if everything is labeled properly!!

Also there is the front I/O to connect and also the card reader with cable. I assume the card reader is to go inside the front panel/door where the optical drive bay areas are? Just use 1 slot and feed the cables back thru to power and the Mobo? What else would go in that 2nd slot besides an optical drive? I don't do discs anymore so I have no use for one. But thinking about what could go there in a future upgrade.

Also, is there a specific sequence I should plug the cable in? Or just plug them in and see where the runs are and then try to organize and manage them once I see where everything is full assembled?

Also what do you think about purchasing a Windows 10 key from Kinguin.net ? Should I go to a site like Bonanza.com ?
 
If you want a Windows 10 key cheap, use Kinguin or G2A, but be sure to get buyer protection, they're gray market keys, sold by third party resellers and quite a few are dodgy.
Strange with the wireless card, it was in stock on the site when I checked. 🙁
You said SuperBiiz weren't shipping the card right?
Contact them and ask about it.
No sequences about plugging stuff in.
Optical drives also use SATA connections if my memory serves me correctly, been a while since I've installed an internal one admittedly. 😛
 
It wasn't superbiiz. I received everything from them already. It was a site called grooves.land

For the optical drives I meant more what would go in those bays instead of the optical drive. I have no use for an optical drive. The case had 2 slots inside the front panel. I will use 1 for the card reader. What can go in the 2nd slot? What do people usually put there besides an optical drive?

I will keep searching for a wireless and Bluetooth card but if you find​ one please let me know.

The AM4 adapter came for the cooler today. I think I am ready to build. I'm only missing the GPU 1080TI, Display and Wireless adapter.

Still don't know what I should do about the wireless adapter...
 
I have no idea what's going on with my original purchase. I'm pretty sure it was a UK (English) company so coming from overseas, but they never sent any tracking. I am likely going to have to dispute with Paypal and just get a refund. But if I can get the card I just bought in 3-6 days like it says I'm cool with that. It comes from the States as well.
I'm just still wondering when the 1080TI is going to ship. Haven't even been charged by Amazon yet for it because they have no stock. The order is in, but they won't charge until it ships... And it hasn't yet.
 

The "FTW" card is just a higher tiered GPU. That means it's clocked a tiny bit higher and is potentially a better binned GPU (meaning - again potentially - that it can clock higher at lower voltages).
Those higher tiered cards also tend to have better cooling and heatsyncs, and sometimes better power delivery too, both of which can potentially improve overclocks and/or thermals.
That SC Black Edition you ordered is still a pretty high end card though, so in reality the performance difference is unlikely to be any more than a single %.
 
The FTW card is clocked higher, binned higher, and features a juiced up PCB for higher overclocking, and another fan for better thermals when OCing.
Realistically though the difference won't be that big, you can still get a really good OC out of the 1080 Ti SC and nearly reach the same level as the FTW card in terms of performance, GPU Boost 3.0 handles quite a bit of that.

But then why is the lower tiered card more expensive? I got it for $699 but it's....NEVERMIND, it looks like Amazon dropped the price to under that of the second card. When I looked last night the higher tired card was in the high $700s and the other card was over $800+
 
Also, I was sent a message today that the company I bought the wireless card from does not have any in stock... So now I am still looking for a Wifi & Bluetooth Card...
Any other recommendations?
 
That card is 4.0, not 4.2

Yes, moral of the story is correct... But I think it's more so that no one has that card available.
I don't even care if I pay more for a card. I just want a good card. Say under $75. But one that will be able to be used for a long time into the future

It hosts the Bluetooth Low Energy or Low energy for short which isn’t present in v4.1. And Privacy is also upgraded in this version as v4.1 has less privacy.

Bluetooth 5.0
Bluetooth 5 is announced in 16 June 2016 to come in late 2016 or early 2017. Bluetooth 5 is here and with it release, developers have tried to meet the all the advanced standard of wireless world with more privacy and security. This version is the continuation of Low Energy LE. Its speed is 48MBps (double than last version). It can be connected up to distance of 300 meters or 985 feet (4 times of last version). The ISM band ranges from 2.4-2.485 GHz. One little disappointing thing for users is that it don’t have any backward compatibility with its old or previous versions. It requires new hardware which should be latest and advanced so that those devices meet the requirements of Bluetooth v5.0 to run it smoothly.



Broadcast messaging feature is also improved in it. Bluetooth 5 has come with 4x range and 2x faster speed. Its most cool feature is that user can adjust its Bandwidth. It provides connection-less Internet of Things. It provides more fast connectivity and optimizes responsiveness.



I think I'm just going to suck it up and buy from OutletPC, but the goddamn card comes to $77.84 ... Which seems like double what it should cost...
