I am going to order a WD 80gig 7200rpm but should I get the 2MB cache or the 8MB for 16 bucks more?

If your cpu ever gets really bogged down (like when you're .ace-ing a file down), it'll make your hard disk noticably faster.

For $16, that's what I'd do anyways. At least, if you're geting the 80 or 120gig version. At the 40gig level, I'd move up to 60 gig for $16.

I think that $16 is a very small price to pay for the 8mb version - I would go for that one.

Get the 8mb version, $16 is worth the little extra performance you get.

 :frown:        - What do you want to feel today? :)

get the 8Mb cache. definately worth it!
muuuuch faster handling lots of small files and read/write requests.

befinately worth it for an extra 16 bucks.

its like... getting low restriction intake and exhaust for your V8... vroooooom

plus did u see my HDTACH results late last week?

the 800JB was scoring 5mb/sec better sustained rates than my other drive, the 80Gb D740X.

and burst speeds were offscale.

i think though the nicest feature is its noise... or lack of.
quiet spin with virtually inaudable seeks.
great for divx.
