Background:
First Build computer was designed to allow my son to record video games he played and to allow me to do video editing for my work. Now my son is going to HS and has long ago given up taping video games. He just needs a simple laptop to run MS Office Online student edition and Google docs. He wants to have a school laptop and wants to cash out some of his $ for other things.
I want to continue doing video production with Premiere Elements or something better, but I also want to begin doing audio production with Ableton Live. It would be much better to have us NOT using the same machine anymore, since the shared arrangement created tension.
Budget:
Trade in of Super Computer ($600?) + $350.00 = approximately $1,000
The super computer:
• Z97S SLI Krait Edition
• Intel i7 4790 LGA 1150
• Corsair Vengence 16 GB
• Windows 8
• Samsung SSD 850 EVO
• Kuhler Water Cooler
• WD green (or blue?) 1 TB
• Box is Ostrog enermax
• Two approximately 15 inch monitors
Goal:
End up with approximately evenly priced devices that allow my son to do what he wants to do, and allows me to end up doing what I like to do, without needing to be on the same machine!
Split of resources should be something like:
Son’s school laptop: $300 and $100 money for other things
Dad’s computer: $350 PC or laptop with chops (16 gb ram) for video/audio production
Hmmm! Please help us Obi-Wan Kenobi! You are our only hope!
