In pursuit of building a quiet rig, I put together the following: Case: Fractal R3, Mobo:GA-Z68XP-UD4 BIOS F5, CPU:i5 2500k,CPU Cooler:Noctua NH-U12P, RAM:Kingston HyperX 4 x4gb,Video: Sapphire Radeon HD4850 x 2,PSU:Coolermaster 600W, SSD: OCZ Agility3 120gb for Boot & OS, Velociraptor 160gb for Apps, 1tb&2tb for Data. OS: Win7.
The problem I have is the 2nd HD4850 in the 2nd PCIe slot starts to heat up and according to CCC V11.8 when it reaches 65 dg the fan comes on to cool it down even with no monitor attached. I had the same problem when the two HD4850 were in a ASUS P5Q Pro with Q9550 and stock cooler (I actually thought it was the CPU fan).
My question is: a) Does this problem exist regardless of what GP card I have? b) Is this problem unique to the 2 x HD4850 I have?
It is extremely annoying that every 4-5 or so mins the fan starts up due to the heat increase in the 2nd HD4850. Especially when I am trying to build a rig that is quiet as possible.
