So after about 9 years my PC FINALLY needs an total upgrade.

Approximate Purchase Date: This month

Budget Range: 1500 AUD

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, lots of movies, tv. DONT need no editing rendering or any of that (no creative talent what so ever)

Are you buying a monitor: Maybe...

Parts to Upgrade: Reusing ThermalTake SMART 750w, SSD 2 HDD, optical drive

Do you need to buy OS: I dunno, I had windows 10 beta, im not sure if its already upgraded itself to the full thing :/

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: MSY or centrecom

Location: Straya

Parts Preferences: Intel and nvidia ONLY

Overclocking: no

SLI or Crossfire: no

Your Monitor Resolution: Currently on 1080 BUT would like to consider 4k for just general use but for gaming if I can.

MGS5 is mainly prompting this upgrade. Just like MGS4 prompted me to buy a PS3 DAMN YOU KOJIMA-SAN!!!!!!

Id like to do as much future proofing as possible with my budget.

Anyway
DEFIANTLY getting GTX970, Considering getting i7-4790 or i5-4690 but open to other ideas.

Motherboard I have no idea, seems very confusing to me. But I would like something that could last a while. USB3 would also be ideal if possible.

Memory eh 8gb of something not fussed.

thanks

Solution
It's about 10% performance and 30% power consumption upgrade. The old series will not go on sale enough to make up that performance difference. No you do not need ddr4, but when it is about the same cost, why not?
try newegg.com, you can get good deals.

you can try pcpartpicker.com to get an idea with what parts will fit in your budget.

here's my idea of the specs that will help you the best.

I would go for the 980(520),

EVO 212 COOLER MASTER heatsink or Noctua heatink (30 for evo, 90 for noctua) *evo is the best for the budget*

cpu :i5 4590 haswell (200)

mobo: ASRock H97M-ITX/ac LGA 1150 Intel H97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard (83)

case: Thermaltake Commander G42 Black ATX Mid Tower Gaming Computer Case (CA-1B5-00M1WN-00) (69)

ram: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 (52)

1000-1100 range, depending on the taxes.

you mentioned that you won't be doing any editing or rendering, so 8 GB is fine.

it depends on you , if you want to go 4 K, I don't think you'll get the full 60 fps because this game seems demanding, but you could tweak some settings and get the 4k/60 fps, I'm sure with medium settings.

is skylake really gunna be worth it though? But yes we already have skylake as in you can buy it right now. The specs dont seem to be worth it. But does this mean prices of the old cpu will go down?

i5 vs i7 though? Do i need DDR4?

Newegg is an american website. Plz no, I didnt mention it for a reason.

is ddr4 worth it though? I rather get it when majority of the computers use it. What's the diff between ddr3 and ddr4 ? curious, not being a troll or an ass. lol
