Hello, I had a x470 Taichi I just purchased and sent back because it would not boot. The heat sink fan would just start to spin but never actually spin. The monitor remained black.

I sent that mobo back and got another one. Same problem. I have a ryzen 3600 and 16 gb ripsaw 3200 ram in it. I have taken everything out, including the ram, to see if it will spin and nothing. I just bought the cpu as well, so it is brand new too.

My psu is old (like 7-8 years), but it is a tx750 watt corsair, and it runs my old mobo, which is an asrock, as well, just fine. Maybe I need a new psu?

I am not sure what it is--could it be another bad mobo from amazon, or perhaps the cpu is bad--is that even possible? The entire mobo lights up when powered--the cpu heat sink will not spin and it will not boot to bios.

Does it say Ryzen 3rd gen ready on the mobo box or a date of it's release? Bios must be on version 3.40 to be compatible with your cpu.

First Bios release is v1.10. Might be a later version depending when the board came from the manufacturer.

Yes, that might be it. It just says ryzen but not 3rd gen.

Only Msi has that feature called Bios flashback capable of updating without a cpu. For you though that isn't possible. Need a working cpu unfortunately.

Could return the board for Msi B450 Tomahawk MAX that is compatible out of the box.

Yeah unfortunately that's what I figured. Thank you for the help. I will prob just return the board and find an x570 mobo.

So now the choice may be keep the x470, which I got for 130, and do the AMD loan program, or get the x570 TUF for around 170. I feel like the x470 is a better board, but it is a hassle.
