As far as I know, it's relatively simple. That's not really the issue i'm having though.
I have maybe 50gb of stuff on my external . If I make it into an internal, install windows, etc, will it wipe it clean? I can't afford to lose what is currently on it. As long as I can be assured that it will in fact not be wiped clean, I'm going to go ahead and go through with it

I think you misunderstood. I want to replace my internal with what is now my external because my external is larger. Putting the stuff on my external on to another external would require me buying another external, which at that rate i'd rather just get a new internal lmao

First of all...understand that no one - NO ONE! - can give you "assurance" about ANY process involving the manipulation of data on a HDD or SSD. You've probably been around PCs long enough to know that when working with that machine #!* happens! The best ANYONE can do is to provide you with their experience/knowledge that this or that process/undertaking *should* work with the expected results. There are NO guarantees. Capiche?

So...

1. Presumably the drive you plan to uninstall from its USB enclosure is a standard HDD with standard SATA data/power connectors. And the drive is is unencrypted.

2. It would be best if you create a partition on the drive large enough to contain the data contents, i.e., your 50 GB or so. The remainder of the drive could be unallocated disk-space.

3. So when you fresh-install the Win OS you will be installing the OS onto the unallocated disk-space and the 50 GB partition should remain separate from the OS installation.

Wouldn't partitioning it wipe the external hard drive clean though? I don't have enough space to move everything back on to my computer so I can't move it then partition, then move everything back

First of all I had (mistakenly) assumed that the 50 GB of data was the TOTAL data on the external drive. But as you point out, I was mistaken.

So what precisely is involved here?
The total data on the external drive is ?
Is the 50 GB worth of data that you want intermingled with all the data on the drive?
Or is it contained in a separate partition on the drive?
If the 50 GB of data is intermingled with the remainder of the data would it be possible for you to you easily isolate that 50 GB of data?
How is the external drive now partitioned - single partition? multiple partitions?

I have an internal hard drive that is too small with only 30gbs left, so I want to convert my external hard drive in to an internal hard drive by popping open the shell, removing the sata to usb adaptor, etc. The external hard drive has some photos and things on it because I used to use the external for storage. This amounts to about 50gbs of storage. The external hard drive in total is 2tb. If you want the exact number listed by windows, it says 930 gbs.

The photos and other files aren't intermingled with anything. I'm not quite sure what you meant by that
As far as I know there is only one partition

I assumed you planned to fresh-install the OS (which is?) onto the 2 TB HDD, however, now you indicate you "have an internal hard drive that is too small with only 30gbs left".
Were you planning to clone the contents (OS) of the present "internal" HDD to the 2 TB HDD? Has that been your plan all along? If not, what were you proposing re the utilization of the present boot drive?
