Is this the video? I wasn't aware of this concept until I read your posting. If you just want to see if it works for academics and own Ashes of a Singularity, then go for it. But if you're actually interested in gaming performance, then no.

I would set an alert on EVGA's b-stock site for a GTX 1060 6GB: https://www.evga.com/products/productlist.aspx?type=8&family=GeForce+10+Series+Family&chipset=GTX+1060+6GB

Once the b-stock GTX 1060 6GB is back in stock (probably less than one week) and you've successfully ordered one, then I would sell the GTX 1050 TI. You'll probably get about the same money used, as you paid for it...

Solution
there is talk of DX12 someday eliminating the need for sli/xfire

however, if it ever did, it would be way down the line and would not be happening any time soon

the support for sli in recent games has been poor and speficially for DX12, sli support is almost non-existant

the short answer, it won't happen any time soon and by the time it does, i doubt 2 x 1050ti's would be compatible seeing as they can't be sli'd anyway

thank you for your advice and yes that was the video that I have seen

Right now, it's impossible, because GTX 1050/1050TI (nor the 1060, for that matter), support SLI:

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3237687/dual-1050-sli-1060.html

As @blockhead78 pointed out, DX 12 might in the future allow for multiple GPU configurations on cards that don't allow for it right now -- or even allow someone to combine, say, a GTX 1060 with an RX 580 in a dual configuration -- but a) there's no guarantee that this kind of capability can even be done, b) even if it's actually possible, we have no timeline as to when it would be available, & c) if it ends up requiring a driver upgrade from the manufacturers (or at least more direct input from them on the coding side), there's also no guarantee they'd be interested in it.

Impossible maybe not the right word, but for day-to-day use, it's not a solution. Like a lot of similar workarounds, it's more interesting as technical feat than in practical use; you can pick games that it does work effectively in, but a lot of games, you'll either get little or no benefit or have trouble running the game at all. Certainly not enough of a benefit to actually go out and buy a second 1050ti; buying a 1060 and selling the first 1050ti is a much better idea than getting a second one.

Shoot, I didn't realize I was responding to a necro-ed thread.
