2x GTX 580 or a single R9 290

I currently have one 580 in my computer, and recently bought a 290. However, I can get another 580 for about 150ish and return the 290 for 500 bucks. Now, would a second 580 be worth it in the long run? Which setup will I get better performance with?

I'd sell the 580 and keep the single 290.

agreed, 290 is newer, and better, alot of games don't take advantage of SLI or crossfire. Stick with a stronger single card

I would stick with the 290, but I would sell the 580 and use the money to replace the inadequate stock cooler with an ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme III.

+1 to bignastyid's advice, so long as you're ok with some low-level techie stuff and have one of the 290's from a manufacturer who are ok with this mod, ie. they allow the warranty to stay in place (Sapphire is one of these methinks).

Yeah I do have a sapphire card, I kind of had a mindset of getting the second 580 and keeping the extra cash but, you might have changed my mind.
