Hi guys, I've go a R9 290 GPU if i were to upgrade it with another one in crossfire I would have to spend £130 for a bigger power supply (1000 W, currently have 750W which wouldn't be enough) and another £230 ish for another 290 card.

so it's a £360 investment.

Would there be anything better that I can get for the same money?

thanks in advance.

I'm personally not a big fan of crossfire/SLI setups if theres single cards that could perform just as well. The extra heat produced, the additional power draw and the overall issues of getting the multi-GPU setups to behave can be a pain.
With that said I would personally keep the 290 as it is for a while longer and see what the near future holds. The new Polaris/pascal series will be getting released sometime in 2016(hopefully sooner rather than later) and although we can only speculate, I think they will both be significant upgrades over the current available models.

Now if you're desperate for an upgrade I'd personally sell your 290 and look for a good deal on something like a Fury(x) or a 980ti-Since you mentioned pounds as your...
Maybe an R9-490 or whatever the Polaris successor will be badged as. It will bring somewhere in the neighborhood of twice the performance using half as much power, which should solve both of your issues: more performance than 2xR290 and no problem CFing a pair in the future on a 750W PSU.

You can get an air cooled fury for around £430 or 470ish for a Fury X.
They are currently the top dogs and even when the next gen of cards get released I'm sure they will remain relevant for quite a while still.
