Hey I know it might be a dumb question but I have 2x4gb f3-17000cl9d-8gbxm from g.skill and I want to upgrade to 16gb of ram. If i get another pair of 2x4gb that are exactly the same and put it in it will work just fine right? My mobo does support 16gb of ram or more by the way.

Solution
In theory, it should work. In practice, there is always the possibility of odd compatibility quirks. At higher frequencies, there is also an increased probability of signal integrity issues when using two DIMMs per channel so you may need to lower clocks or loosen timings.

I'm running 4x8GB (2x2x8GB, 32GB total) on my PC.

Will it work?
of course..it'll run flawlessly..

Actually, more memory meaning more load to processor IMC, and that's almost mean more heat to handle..and harder to overclock.
and based on my experience..i've run 4x4gb in my system, this current configuration is less responsive rather than 2x4gb..

If your mobo is a dual channel based mobo (i.e. 1150, 1155, AMD, etc) and the sets of sticks will play together they will all play in in a combined (singular) dual channel setup (all sticks will be seen together as a single 128bit 16GB device..Quite possibly might need to add voltage to DRAM or MC to help them run stable since it is two sets

Thanks a lot for your answers. I could stick to 8gbs then.. I could use some more ram for photoshop and multitasking but I bumped the frequencies up a little bit today and it seems to be performing much better. By the way, I had some problems on frequencies more than 1600mhz on these rams (bluescreens) but today I clocked it to 2133hz and it's been fine. My mobo supports up to 2800mhz, could anyone suggest some clocking settings for my rams to get the maximum performance out of it? My mobo is a z77 fatal1ty professional. Thanks a lot.
