Hi,
I recently bought a radeon vega 64 which requires 2x8 pins and min 750w of power. I have a nox apex 800w psu but it only has a 2x6 pin +2 for the graphics card.
Is there any way that i can use this psu for the card? If so should i buy two 6 to 8 adapters?

Thanks blackbird and James.
Atm i only have 1 graphics card cable coming out of the psu (it is 6 and 6+2) I suppose the other cable is still inside the box then. but the box is at home (in another country) so I will have to buy a new cable... do you guys recommend any cables? is it safe to connect a 8 to 8 pin plus a 6+2 pin to the gpu or should i connect 2x8 pin from the slots in the psu and ignore the cable that i have. I see that the amps are different between a 8 and a 6+2 pin slot that comes out from the psu.

This is a bit tricky, actually . Modular power cables are not universal on the end that goes into the power supply, so it's not as easy as just picking up a replacement. You can typically find aftermarket cables that are compatible with specific power supplies, meaning that if you have a mainstream Corsair or EVGA or SeaSonic-branded PSU, you can usually find a compatible one. For a rather obscure company, that's a lot harder and your good bets are pretty much limited to either getting your cable or contacting the company itself and seeing what they can do for you.

thanks for the reply. i didnt know it was so complicated... you think this one might work?

I'm not a fan of adapters, they instantly become the weak spot in your power delivery system and you're at the mercy of mystery manufacturers. I'd only use one once the other options failed. Though you *can* use it in that case; frequently obscure PSUs are terrible and adapters are doing things the PSU shouldn't be doing, but while it's not on a modern platform, you do have a Super Flower-manufactured platform, which should be at least be OK.

Hm...my options are very limited... i would have to either order a new psu, or wait a month to travel home to look for the 6+2 extra cable of my current psu.

Is it possible to plug in the 6pin directly into the 8pin slot of the graphics card? i know that the extra 2 pins are just neutral, they dont pass any voltage.

Solution
Hi guys,
I decided to go against your advice and used the adaptor to plug in the radeon vega to the psu 2x6+2 slots. I've installed the drivers and so far it is working. It's friday night so I really want to play a bit (it's the only time of the week that i get to play). I will play Prey with as high definition as possible and see how it goes. I Thank you very much for your advice and hold myself responsible for the consequences.
This adapter is just a temporary solution. I respect your advice, so i will buy a new psu with more compatibility. I don't think this psu is good enough for the vega, even with the proper cables.

I will let you know how tonight went.
