Hey guys, I am upgrading my system with a new processor and I would like to know which will give me better results with overclocking. My current setup is as follow: Abit IC7, 512mb Geil Platinum pc4000 memory, (2) Raptors in raid 0, FX5950 ultra, Thermalright sp94 heatsink with 92mm Tornado fan(loud as hell),and I have really good air cooling, 2 80mm in front, 2 80mm in back, 2 80mm in side window, 1 120mm in side window, and 1 120mm on top of case. My current temps with a 2.53 @ 3.3ghz are 40 degrees idle, and 51 load. Which of these processors will give me the best overclock, i.e, highest front side bus with my cooling. I keep it pretty cool in my house too, around 68 degrees fahrenheit. Any help is appreciated.

If I were you I'd go for 2.8C, if you're lucky you'd reach 250FSB. That's the best I think you could get. If you want to get the 3.2C, then buy PC3500 memory max, nothing beyond that. For Video card depends what you do, if you're into gaming, then I'd go for 9800XT, if money's no concern. Personally if you ask me, this is what i would get if i were you, the same budget.

Intel 2.8C
Abit IC7-MAX3(so you could get those insane vdimm)
2x512(1g) OCZ PC4000EL Dual channel ram
Get a single 120 or 160G SATA if you insist Seagate Barracuda7 hdd, they're fast enough.
Sapphire 9800pro 128mb
Prometeia MACH 1
This setup may get you 14x270FSB, which is around 3.7G
Prometeia really isn't cheap, it's about 400-500US.

This is what I would get if i were you. And with this your CPU'll be below zero all the time.

-Intel PIV 2.6C @ 3.276G -Asus P4P800 -OCZ Copper 4x256 4000EL memory @ 252mhz 2.5-3-4-6 -XFX 5900 128meg 570/1040 -SB audigy -2x120G Seagate 7200.7 S-ATA150 hdd -450 Enermax PSU

If you really want to get your bus speed up, you'll want the 2.8C. If you're lucky, it will go to 3.5GHz/250MHz FSB/PC4000 speed.

Thanks for the info guys. Scotchen, I am sticking with my current setup for now, until the new line of mobos(chipset) come out, just upgrading the processor. Any possible way that a 3.0 will hit 250fsb on air cooling?

Impossible for aircool period. You'll be lucky if water reaches that, probably won't, that's when Prometeia comes into play.

Sorry man, i didn't read your first post properly, you just want to upgrade the processor, well then, my answer would be the 2.8C. If you want the 3.0C, then Prometia is definently required. That 2.8C at 250FSB is a stretch though, there's a high chance that you won't get there under 1.7Vcore. But once you pump that vcore past 1.7, your processor dies much quicker.

Cool man, thanks. That is what I thought, but I just wanted to make sure. I appreciate it. I would love to get the Prometia system, but thats a lot of dough. Take care.
