Hello. I am likely paranoid, but regardless i feel the need to be as safe as possible. To do this i would like to carry my disk around with me. Could a 3.1 usb achieve ssd like operation speeds? I tried on my older pny, im not sure what its specs are, but there was common hang time and delays. Anyone know if running an os of a 3.1 usb would be good enough to not have delays?

Solution

1. Carrying your OS around is likely less safe than having it internal to whatever device you use.
2. Running the OS through USB will never be as fast as off an internal drive.
3. If you want your 'data' safe, then use an external drive for that. The OS is of no consequence.
4. Or, full disk encryption, with a strong password.
