currently at 3.2ghz stable but opting to go to at least 3.4ghz, need advice on how to approach this. tried to loosen the timing but wont go stable... hopefully someone with the same setup can help, specifically PC667 RAM.

my rig:
GA-965P-DS4
E6600 @ 1.3V
NANYA Tech RAM: PC667 @ 2.1V , 4-4-3-10 timing, 357 frequency, 9x multipler
MCH +.10V
FSB +.05V
Temps: (CoreTemp) 46 idle / 61 load...high temps due to my hot place.

Your memory is only 667, yet you're pushing it to an effective 714... It's obviously proving too much, even with relaxed timings. I would suggest an upgrade to DDR2-6400 (800MHz) sticks. Personally, I would suggest the ones in my sig. :)

This should enable at least a 400MHz FSB, which translates into 3.6GHz for your system. You'll need a good cooler to get this far, though... Tuniq Tower/Scythe Infinity/BT etc...

You should also check the cooling section for a good cpu solution. Also a good airflow inside the case might help with the memory cooling.

I helped to build my friends new computer. I bought him, E6600 with 2Gb PC6400 (800MHz)...

Yesterday we installed his new Zalman CNPS9700Led, and it is working great!
With the stock-cooling we were able to reach 3GHz. Now it is running stable at 3,6GHz.

CPU: 400*9 = 3600MHz
Memory-CPU: 1:1, 400*2 = 800MHz
FSB: 1600MHz

We are using about 1,48v to the CPU and 1.9v to the DDR2-memory.

well, i had another go on it and was able to raise it to 3.6ghz but the temp goes up to 68C. case cooling isnt the problem with my antec900, but my gigabyte g-power might not be up to the challenge of cooling my processor, rasise my vcore to 1.4v and up'ed my timing to 5-5-5-15. stable with orthos but i didnt like the temps. will try to tweak again later...

I have gotten up to 4.0GHz and am currently running at 3.6 stable for gaming, I am using OCZ Gold XTC PC2 8000, DDR2 1000 currently running at 800MHz with timings of 4-5-5-12, you are being limited by your ram and cooling, hell I hit a wall at 4.0GHz with my liquid cooling setup consisting of a Eheim 1250 pump (1200 lph output), swiftech apogee wb and 120.3 alphacool nexxxos rad. If you are planning on staying with air cooling, get one of these two heatsinks( replace the existing fan that comes with it with a high CFM fan with output of 100cfm or more to get best results):

You need proper cooling in order to up the vCore, 1.5 on good air cooling will get the job done.

You could still give a try with lower timing like 5-5-5-15. Also memory sub timing might help.

i read in intels website that 65C for e6600 is still within operating temperature, somehow that lightened my fear of high temps in my cores. though i would definitely like to acheive 30+C idle (48C mine now) and around the high 40's or low 50'sC for my system.
i would be on the look out for a tuniq 120 here in my area. perhaps then i could go higher...
thanks for your replies... does help.
Good Day!
