I've seen this processor mentioned and seen some preorders.. but does anyone know when it will be available?
I am building a new system soon and want either a 3.8ghz P4 or the 3800+ A64. But if Nvidia doesnt have their PCX chipsets out by the time I'm ready to buy (Nov or Dec by latest), I'm going to sacrifice some speed for PCX support. Not buying another AGP card, I am going to add another 6800Ultra when a SLI capable board comes out.

I'd prefer the AMD but they seem to be a bit behind in the motherboard department. I dont mind "settling" for a 3.8 P4.. just when can I get one?
The 4.0ghz would be better, and hopefully that ones out by end of year or Q1.

I believe the 3.73 ghz P4 will be out this month running with DDR2 1066mhz RAM

Alienware already have a 4ghz, OCed of course. And a 3.8Ghz EE.

DDR2-1066 sounds impressive... but be careful, DDR2-667 is expected to be introduced alongside a 1066Mhz FSB... not the other way.

DDR2-1066 might be possible but it's still very far-fetched. DDR2-800 is a certain evolution of the DDR2 memory, though.

I'm not too concerned on cost, or price/performance.. otherwise I prob wouldnt even be looking at P4s. The performance "loss" in gaming isnt something I'm bothered with. Few ppl I know have anything 3000+ or above speed (in either AMD or Intel), so I wont get tarred and feathered for having a 3.8ghz P4.
I dont want to feel like I'm throwing away money either.. and EEs seem that way to me.
4ghz has such a nice ring to it, dont you think? They should hurry up with that part.

The overall changes they've done is encouraging as well.. BTX, DDR2, PCX.. all things I want in my next box. At very least, PCX. AMD needs to get their platforms together and updated.

I'm not going to build a system and get left out when PCX peripherals take over PCI. Which leaves Intel as my only choice. HT and the workstation performance makes it equal to the A64 in my eyes.. that extra power in photoshop and MPEG edits will be very nice.
Also some reviews have stated the LGA775 processors boot faster than A64 by 5 seconds or so.. trimming that off will be a nice bonus as well

well i think lg755 is way overpriced nwo for my tastes. i dont care how much money you have, buying itno ddr2 on lg755 is a long shot right now.

you mention amd being behind on motherbaords. How so exactly? DDR2 is not something amd evne needs on its systems, so i dont count that as making htme inferior. Now pci-e is somehting i do want too, but seeing as how pci-e graphics cards are the only pci-e cards oyu can get, there arent any other types like raid controllers, etc, plus the fact that pci-e graphics cards arent easy to find to buy, ease my pian in nto having acces to pci-e right now lol.

but anyway, if you want pci-e on amd , and your goign to be waiting anyway, then wait and see how the nforce 4 does when it debuts later this month. you may have amd as an option again lol. i just cant really stomach paying 1k for a p4ee, and it doesnt matter if i could pay that or not. i wouldnt be buying an fx either unless i just wanted to overclock into the extreme.

just trying to point out that amd isnt that far behind in what counts ^^, and dont get me started on btx lol, you cna get the same btx cooling potential from atx cases made by lian li and others, so btx matters little to me.

I originally wanted the FX53 but noticed the huge price difference between the S940 and new 939 model. Something like $200. That discourages me from buying the 939 when the 940 is being discounted.

I know DDR2/BTX arent crucial, but change is nice.. even if it really is useless. PCX is Intels ace in the hole, I wouldnt ever build a new system at any time, (even with the performance "loss" that Intel gives you in games.. I laugh when ppl put a 3.0+ ghz P4 down as if they have anything as fast themselves)... after hearing of all future Nvidia boards supporting SLI I can't stomach building a new system without it.
I have Intel and AMD systems now and it seems to me that the Intel does much better at multitasking.

I might be waiting and I might not. I have always found Nvidia products across the board to be the best performing and best supported I've ever used (even years later).. so I wont ever go the AMD route without them putting out the NF4.
