Hi:

I have the 3 beeps error on startup that I read is most prob RAM related. I have 3x4GB sticks.

I have removed and rehoused in various combinations so that I have 1 stick in the first slot.

I have also removed the battery from the MB and reseated.

The PC now comes on - I had it running with no issue for several hours last night - but this morning it runs for <5 mins before shutting down and re-booting with 3 beeps. Taken out the battery gets it going again.

Any ideas? Do I have to go into the BIOS screen? Or something?

If you can tell us what the motherboard is, goes a long way to finding out what the problem is, not all motherboards/systems use the same beep codes, it MIGHT be ram, bad slots, power fault, capacitors swollen/rusty/not holding the voltage properly

sorry its taken so long, but looking at the manual it says the following

does this match what beeps you get?

Computer Beeps 3 Times on Startup
Last Reviewed: 03-Oct-2016

When you turn on your computer and it continually beeps 3 times (three one-second beeps), it means there is a memory issue.

To resolve this problem, check the following:

Visually observe the memory modules are properly installed in the DIMM slots and that they are pressed in completely, with the latches locked in place.

The memory could be bad and need to be replaced but try this first:

Unsnap the memory modules then snap them back in. Make sure you hear a click and the modules are fully seated. You also need to use compressed air to blow all the dust of the modules but usually reseating does the trick! This will solve your problem 99 out of 100 times.

Make sure you use supported memory for your board. Check the speed and size of your memory.
Check that the memory modules are not defective:
Test the memory modules one at a time.
Try the modules in another computer, or try different known-working modules in this system.

If this helped please let me know.

Is this how you think you get known as someone who helps? answer a thread that the OP has already said that has been answered, by posting the same answer that i did (more or less) and downvoting ALL other answers?
