i just assembled my first computer with the following specs

processor- Intel Core i5-3470 Quad-Core
PSU- corsair CX 500 Watt
MOBO- ASRock LGA 1155 Intel ASRock B75M-DGS R2.0
RAM- 1 stick of Kingston HyperX 8GB 240-Pin DDR3
Hard drive- WD Blue 1 TB Desktop
Video Card- msi gtx 760

when i try to boot up the computer i keep getting a series of 3 beeps and nothing on the monitor, i tried moving the RAM to another slot ended up with the same result. I tried taking out the CMOS battery and putting it back in (didn't work). I even tried blowing on the RAM to see if dust was causing the problem (didn't work). I tried running without RAM installed got the same 3 beep. Everything else works the cpu fan is spinning as well as the video card. Would appreciate any help you can offer.

Solution
One stick is fine, I would be suspect of the ram first just because that's the easiest thing to get replaced but 4 beeps usually indicates a system timer which if it's not the cmos battery it is bad news but if it only did it once it probably was just the battery wasn't seated right then after you reset the cmos it picked it up.My guess is the ram is faulty.
When you took out the Cmos battery was your PSU also unplugged also did you try to breadbox start before you installed it into the case you could be shorting somewhere.3 beeps is usually a read/write test fail so if you can try the ram in another machine or different ram in this one.

when i removed the battery i took out the plug for the PSU, can it be a motherboard problem? When i first booted it was 4 beeps, then after i plug in the fan it went from 4 beeps to a continuous beep. After that i re installed the video card now it;s 3 beeps when i try to boot.

Can it be that the motherboard requires both RAM slot filled in order to run? Right now i only have 1 stick of 8 gb ddr3 1600 installed.

i manged to replace the RAM, now there's no beeps at all and the computer won't enter POST, monitor still blank. I'm missing one standoff because the case didn't have a hole that matched up to it. Could the single standoff be preventing the MOBO from booting?

The video card is plugged in with both pcie cable and both the 4 pin 12v cpu cable and the 24 pin main power cable are plugged in. Using a vga (the blue one) to connect pc to monitor.

UPDATE- it entered BIOS plugging hdmi into video card worked apparently vga doesn't work it seems default display is set to graphic card. Thanks everybody for the help.

Again thanks for all the help

funny thing computer boots fine with a single stick of 4gb ram 1333 mhz but refuses to boot with a 8gb 1600 mhz ram (tried two different ones neither worked)
is it the motherboard or is the power supply not strong enough? (the gtx 760 is a power hog) power supply is a 80+ 500 watts.

according to the motherboard page http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/B75M-DGS%20R2.0/?cat=Specifications
1600 mhz is supported.

its cause your using memory with different speed your can turn on future in BIOS and try again if your have time to play, but probably its not gonna work aether .

i never installed both the 1300 mhz and the 1600 mhz at the same time. It worked fine with only the single 4gb 1300 mhz installed but when i swapped that out for the 8gb 1600 mhz it refuses to boot.
