Does anyone still make a 3-button mouse where the middle button sends a hardwired left double-click? My very old q500 (mouse systems) is finally giving up the ghost and I have not been able to find anything like it anywhere - in all the immense maze of mouse offerings, not a single one I have come accross has the middle button hard-wired to send a left double click. Not a one! And I can't find any website for the old mouse systems - I'm figuring they went out of business because of the many current optical mouse offerings - but none of these use the middle button by default as a left double click - you have to install their driver and the old mouse systesm optical mouse (which came with a double gridded little mouse pad) didn't require any drivers. I wish I had bought more when they were still available, because the current offerings are actually a step backwards, in my humble opinion. Can anyone point me to where I can find the kind of mouse I am looking for? littleberry

I use a Logitech trackball that has 4 buttons and you can configure them they way you want them. I use a trackball because they are more accurate and you dont have to slide it around. Once you go trackball, you will never go back to a mouse. Ok, enough of the trackball cheerleading.

Here is a link:<A HREF="http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=6,CONTENTID=5006" target="_new">http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=6,CONTENTID=5006</A>

For a true 3 button mouse here is a link:<A HREF="http://www.labtec.com/index.cfm/gear/details/AMR/EN,crid=29,contentid=624" target="_new">http://www.labtec.com/index.cfm/gear/details/AMR/EN,crid=29,contentid=624</A>

Do a google search for more.

I think most 3 button mice are gone do to the scroll wheel.

I am sure they arent hardwirded, but they(might) are programable to work that way.

I agree with you, Prisoner, about the trackball. Actually, I have a PS2 trackball AND the serial 3-button optical mouse both installed. The thing about the trackball is that I have to install a driver to get that double-click - that infuriates me since my older 3-button mouse gives you that automatically. I went even further and had a technician to micro-solder 4 long thin wires (flat ribbon type) to connect the 3 button mouse (left, middle, right, ground) to a seperate 3-button mouse on my left hand side so that when I click the left-hand mouse it closes the associated switch on the right hand mouse. That way, I can just lazily move the right hand mouse around and use the left hand to operate the buttons (saves corpal tunnels). I rigged this up several years ago when I got the tunnel syndrome and couldn't use a regular mouse (or trackball) for a couple of months. The key for me is to have a single button hardwired to effect a double click. It looks like I'll have to go ahead and install the bloomin' drivers and set up one of the buttons for double click. I use a Logitech MX700 and I set my scroll wheel button to do a double click.

I have also set my optical mouse to do a double left click by depressing the scroll wheel. Works fine for me, although I find myself used to double clicking anyways, so I only use it on rare occasions, like when I am showing a buddy how I have set the mouse up to double left click :)

Dude, I'm exactly the same way. After a bunch of double clicking, I think to myself "WTF I have the wheel-button set for double!"
