3 GPU's - what to pick?

So, I just got some cash. I would LOVE to get the GTX 970 and while I theoretically can afford it, it’s still a lot of money. So I’ve searched my local vendors for alternatives and listed the prices below (as they would be in states). The prices are euro-prices (Scandinavia at least). So – please give me your 5 cents – what’s the best buy? Speaking in terms of cost-benefit, you know: most bang for the buck. I want to get my card tomorrow

XFX Radeon R9 280 = 289 USD
ASUS R9290-DC2OC-4GD5 = 392 USD
ASUS Strix GTX970-DC2OC-4GD5 = 456 USD

PS. I’ve got a measly old XFX 7870 – any idea about what improvement I would get? Cheers

Note: a local guy is also selling his R9 280X with a 2 year w. for 150 USD.

I personally would suggest getting the 970, altough yes we have that scandal with the VRAM it will make very little difference to you, or anyone for that matter, the 970 is still very good value for money and will especially make a difference with that efficient Maxwell architecture, lowering your heat output ESPECIALLY compared to the AMD alternatives ! http://www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/1790-nvidia-geforce-gtx-960-game-fps-benchmark-review/Page-2
