Hi there. I have a little problem regarding my monitor setup. ATM i have one VGA monitor, one DVI monitor and one HDMI monitor. I have connected the VGA and the DVI monitor to my R9 270X which works fine. Because the GPU has one DVI-D and one DVI-I, i used a VGA to DVI cable for the VGA display and the straight DVI connection for the DVI monitor.

Due to my requirements, I need a 3 monitor setup so both my DVI and VGA monitors are 22" but my HDMI monitor is above the two monitors and it is a 32" HDMI flatscreen. The R9 has a hdmi input but when i connect it, it says that i have to disable a screen first then i can use the HDMI screen. But then it ends up using two screens but i need three? Is there any way around this?

Also is it possible for me to use my intergrated GPU and my discrete GPU at the same time? So i can use the VGA display on the intergrated one whilst using the 2 DVI monitors on the discrete gpu? I've checked in other places but I have seen mixed answers. My CPU is a amd 10-5800k and my motherboard is a gigabyte ga f2a58m hd2. It's something to do with the bios but ive checked there for the appropiate options but nothing relevant has come up?

Thanks for any input and sorry for the long post.

Yeah there is a displayport input on my discrete GPu but atm i cannot afford a new monitor, instead i have a shedload of 22" vga monitors. Also could you tell me the difference between a active and passive display? (sorry for the noob question)

You need an ACTIVE adapter if you are going to use a display that has HDMI or DVI input.

A passive adapter is used for splitting, extending or similar and you already have a DisplayPort input monitor.

So your options are :

1. Get a DisplayPort monitor. They are a little pricey.
2. Get a Active DisplayPort adapter to DVI / HDMI depending on which one you need. DO NOT do this for the VGA monitor. They are less pricey, but still a good 30-40$ last time I checked.

Ah right okay, so what about using the onboard gpu and the discrete gpu being used at the same time? is it possible or i can forget about that happening?

I didn't have that clear a choice. It was either/or. No other way to use IGP AND PCIe. Either, or...
