USB 2.0 max speed is 60 MB/sec (= 480Mb/sec) ?

USB 1.1 max speed is 12 mb/sec ?

(2)

Is it possible, to connect up to 4 Webcams via an (active) USB Hub to a PC

and control them (start/stop/fetch videos) from there ?

(3)

Is there any (Java ?)-Application out there, that can show up to 4
Video-Streams synchronously in parallel ?

(needs not to be real-time)



Any hints welcome !

The usb bandwidth is shared by all the devices on the usb port.
For actual "webcam" use on the internet, the normal bandwidth
available for the end user is much lower than the usb spec, so
there is really no difference there between the two.

Most usb webcams use the generic windows WMD drivers, which
usually allows only one cam to use the driver at a time.

With the proper setup (video capture cards and/or video switcher
and such), you can show several cams at once. Below is a test
page I have with four cams connected that uses a winnov capture
card and the free webcam2000 webcam application.

check that site, I use webcamXP, to feed those live steaming pictures. using
a 3com camera and a Logitech, both USB.

control all 4 Video-Streams synchronously in parallel, such as, turn
on/off/record, even do motion detection. You can dowload it from
