ive updated the original question stating the motherboard
thanks for the reply though
the old setup was a 250gb ssd boot drive with 3 x3tb extra storage win 7 I took out 1 x 3tb and added a new 2 tb put in a new new i3 machine ,formatted them to run vortexbox (fedora 19) so that would be ext 2,3,4 partitions basically it was a Linux machine to run plex media server.
linux only ever saw it as 2tb so I put it back in the windows machine which now only sees it as 2tb
ive taken a second 3tb out of the windows machine and formatted to Linux ext 4 where it is happily running at 3tb

so I have a win 7 machine running 250 gb sdd 1 x 3tb running fine
Linux machine 2 tb boot 3tb extra storage running fine
1 x 3tb that thinks its a 2tb being shuffled between all my computers trying to sort it out
