Hello,
I have a Dell Inspiron 518 with Intel Core 2 Duo E3700 @ 2.66 Ghz 2.67 Ghz, 6 GB RAM, Intel G33/G31 Express Chipset, and 64 bit Windows Vista Home Premium.
I want to upgrade the video card to be able to play Civilization 5 with my son. The recommendation is a 512 MB ATI 4800 series or better, 512 MB nVidia 9800 series or better.
Are these compatible with my machine?

Budget is less important that the fact that it looks like you dont have a decent slot for a graphics card.
Spec of your machine Here --> http://www.dell.com/us/dfh/p/inspiron-518/pd

Suggests you only have a PCI and a PCIe x1 slot available...

Neither of these are any good for graphics cards (99% of which need a full size PCI Express slot)

You can get graphics cards for these slots... but they tend to be rubbish in terms of what you want to do.
I will leave others to say if there are any which will be "good enough" .... I dont know

Cheers
