they're showing it now on apple's front page (www.apple.com) apparently it uses a 16ms LG panel but i dont see any reviews of any such panel here at tom's. Is this because it is only apple freindly? (Nvidia doesn't make the required dual link dvi card needed to run it on a PC). i would like to know how it is for gaming.

Nice monitor. The aluminum frame will match my aluminum case and keyboard.....

Only the 30" size needs some special card from Nvidia that won't be out till August and only for Macs at this time. The other two sizes 20" and 23" will plug right into a PC. Who can afford a 30" LCD for $4000 anyway. I'm drooling over the 23incher.

TOMS - You should really review that 23" inch screen in your next article. You have not included a Mac screen yet and since they work on PCs and look pretty cool and are large it would be nice to see how they perform.

yuck, but why would anyone want a 17" monitor?

no, cause that ain't as cool.

I agree...get a review of that 23 incher. How do games look on a wide screen? Also, let's be honest...if they opped the price $500 all of us would get it. Why does Apple need to raise prices higher than Robert Downy Jr?

Awesome, addictive, FREE game!

the prices are rediculous, but its a neash market... let them run it they way they want...the only argument that they have for such high prices that i would back them up for is that supply an demand is that they wouldn't be able to produce them fast enough if PC users started to buy them so they'll just keep them over priced and saturate the Mac community only make a 'good' profit off them and be done with it. they are not into consumerism.

Yes i myself would concider buying once of those... if they were not so damn much.

eather way TOM's realy should review this product... the 23" AND the 30" along with that 6800 Ultra DDL.

Toms should realy review the G5 2.0 or 2.5 aswell, but that will never happen because apple for one will not lend a machine to Toms, a two, Toms will not buy one to review.

that same thing may be the case with the monitors.

lets hope not

I want a review of the 30". I want to know why it needs a special card and how it handles games.

Either the 23" or 30" would be an awesome monitor!

DROOL!

They're selling the 23" for 10% cheaper on pricewatch. I didn't check out the vendor on resellerratings, but it is to be found cheaper.

it is sad if apple won't lend their monitors. alot of ppl here have been waiting for an LCD like this. oh well maybe LG is making a similar one for PC (if apple didn't bind them to some exclusivity clause) blaahh..

yo have a good point knowing apple they would bind them...

however, i watched the Key note and Steve said something about taking only the Good monitors and the rest go to the PC's So who ever they are OEMing from they will be out for the PC's too i would imagin.

thats too bad, not only would i also want a review on these lcd screens but i would LOVE to see a mac vs pc review from toms! maybe if the community will put some pressure we'll get to see something of that sort 🙂 .

tryed that.

It'll take a more then pressure... it'll take money too... unless you know someone at Apple or an apple rep that'll led something to Toms.

the best we can do from here is to write to the editors.

Try that.

Forgewt who it was... but someone put together a templated request to the editors a while back for the same cause, to try and get more apple related reviews.

perhaps toms can offer some kind of donation option for causes such as these, im sure this site has thousands of viewers, its enough one out of a few users puts out a buck and stuff like this are doable, once a review on a mac is done for example it could be raffled among users who donated for the cause or something of that sort.

As with probably most of you, I would snatch up that 23'' in a second if it wasn't priced, high blah blah. =) BUT, I was wondering if anyone has tried a dual monitor setup with the dell 2001fp? It would be actually less to have two dells (40"!) than just one apple 23". Kinda scary. Anyways, just wondering if anyone loved their dual monitor setup, etc. Also, does anyone know about that new samsung model coming out? Supposedly it's a 20"+ 16ms in the next month or so. AH...the joys of technology.

I have a Dual Monitor set up... I can't live with out it!

everyone who i've met thats ever worked on a dualy never turns back.

I'm not sure I could handle the line down the middle of the screens in a dual setup. But maybe. All-in-one is nicer.

I like the idea of Kopykat of people pitching in a dollar and then raffle it off at the end of the review to those who contributed. The odds would be so much better than playing the lottery.

I dont want to change the subject completly on this thread but Im gonna post a poll thread for weather or not its a good idea that thg would give an option to users here to donate cash which will be used to purchase hardware for reviews, at the end of each review the hardware can be raffled between the ppl who contributed. Please visit the thread and post your opinion, thank you.

actualy you woulkdn't feal like there is a line between the monitors.

Its like haveing a second desk. (well it is a desktop)

If you work in programs that have Pallets, you can now use your whole desktop and put all the pallets on another.

If your using two Programs you can have them both open and visible at the same time.

If you are using a refrance from one Program (ie internet, Word Document) you can have it open on the other screen while you work in another.

All-in-one pale's in comparison .. even at 23"

BTW, the New monitors... they are not Wide Screen anymore...

It seemed like that was the direction apple was trying to take things. as though there were looking to get the 16.9 ratio...

What? Yes, they are widescreen. Have you even looked at them? The 20" and 23" displays are the exact same size and shape as the old ones, just newer technologies in the panels (and obviously the smaller, more attractive bezel). The 30" is the same aspect ratio as the other two, just ridiculously huge. And, the 30" will work on any PC graphics card that has a Dual-Link DVI port on it. I believe there are some Quadros or FireGLs that are so equipped.

I really want one of the 20" ones. Too bad I don't have the cash for it right now.

I need to see some reviews and look at one first hand before I can even think about purchasing. That Mac stuff seems more expensive than it needs to be as well....probably good quality stuff though. I wonder what the typical number of dead pixels are on those? When will there be no such thing as dead pixels? It seems that's not acceptable to me.

More than you want to know about me . . .

yea, dead pixels to me seem like a product that should never have got'n to market.

that is an interesting Question... I would like to know how much better the Quality of the Apple displays are... and if they last longer.
