i built myself a very cheap computer with 300 dollars
specs:
GPU - HD 7750 DDR5 1GB (99 DOLLAR VIDEO CARD)
CPU - PHENOM II X4 850 3.3MHZ
RAM - 1X 4GB DDR3 1333 SINGLE CHANNEL
POWER SUPPLY 200W - 10 DOLLAR SHITTIEST PSU ON THE MARKET
(the hole system requires only 193W - extreme power supply calculator http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp )
HDD- 1TB WDC

for my own surprise this pc runs all the heaviest games i know on max settings and with a very good framerate

i have a 40" led tv on my room and i noticed that i dont need 1080p, because i cant see the difference on this distance
this guy agrees with me http://www.hometheater.com/content/you-dont-need-1080p

i played bf3 and crysis 2 on max settings and 720p and got very high fps, 40fps avg and 55fps avg respectively on single player
on bad company 2 multiplayer with 32 players on a heavy messy rush match i got a minimum of 20fps on the most messy seconds and most time it stayed at 45fps, unlike conquest rush tends to flock players on small areas

im used to play all games at ma 30fps on consoles, and max of 720p
on consoles framerate drops to 15 or 10 sometimes
and it is very good to play on consoles this ocasional framedrops dont botter me

so if im not a enthusiast, dont wanna play on 3 screens or a giant tv close to my eyes i think i dont need nothing more than 300 dollars
when new consoles come i will seel this pc on higher price than a used console and buy a new 300 dollar machine, but only if new consoles have a better hardware than my 7750 + phenom x4 850

That may be a bit harsh. Granted, I enjoy higher resolution more, and I imagine he would too, but he has managed to make a perfectly decent gaming rig for $300, which is what the PS3 used to cost, if it doesn't still.

I won't be trading in my monster system for it, but it does show you can enjoy PC gaming at the same costs as a console.

That said, that $10 PSU scares me.

yeah mate, im pretty sure you´re already on the 3d and 4k tv hype

check the link i posted to see why nobody needs 1080p on a 40" tv at 6 feet

talk to that guy instead of me

LOL, the $10 PSU also scares me, but its still working so far

yeah, I guess it was a bit harsh - I'm glad you built a cheap gaming rig that has about the same performance as a PS3 - whatever makes you happy and is within your budget is all that matters

but I don't need to see any you-tube videos or read what anyone posts - I've had my hands on more than 20 million dollars worth of A/V equipment over the past 8 years (I'm a custom A/V designer/installer on megayachts and residential) - you probably can't even imagine the picture quality of a commmercial Panasonic 42" plasma that is the best in its class, it's light years ahead of what you're using and I'm 100% positive you would see the difference

ps3 keeps 25 - 28 fps on a setting comparable to low on the pc
my pc gets 80 - 90 fps on low

about the tv and resolution, like i said, talk to the tv expert on the link i posted not to me

 you do realize that article was written in 2006 😱 - 6 years ago, right??? it was written when the cheapest RUNCO 42" plasma cost about $6800, when LCD displays were the newest technology

I can't see how he agrees with you. He's saying you don't need 1080p because they are (were, it was written 6 years ago) no TV shows that display at that resolution. Guess what. Games natively support 1080p.

^ This. I was going to say that although I can't be bothered to follow your link, I know the guy will be talking about TV/DVDs and not gaming. And don't tell these people to talk some other guy - you've just posted in a forum. Why write the post if you're not interested in discussion?

ops!
very sorry
that was the wrong article
the one i meant was this
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7-57366319-221/why-4k-tvs-are-stupid/
its from january 2012
the guy simple proves you cant see the direrence from 720p 1080p in a 40 inch tv because the human eye cant tell the difference (not because your tv is not good enough)
and in a test people prefered 720p on a plasma 600hz super contrast to many 1080p led tvs not realizing it was not full hd
very interesting article

on a pc monitor in 1 feet distance from your nouse its a totally diferent story
