Newegg has a sale on the XFX 390X for $370, with a $30 rebate and a free Hitman game code (worth $40), so its $300. But I also see a used GTX 970 for $250 on my local Craigslist. Which should I get?

Solution
The r9 390x only just edges out the 970,if you want to swing the extra 50 bucks for the new product,8gb of vram and slightly more fps(4 more fps than gtx 970 most of the time) then do so,however if your on a smaller budget and want the 970 go for it but make sure that you have proof of it working first.

Buying second hand isnt always a bad thing like some people say as long as you have proof of working and good condition

If my reply helped you please select it as the solution to help others out :)

@thebestsolution the GTX 970 also comes with "The Division" game key (as he upgraded to a 980 Ti, and that came with it), so its more like $220. I think I'll take that deal, but I'll be sure to try it out in my computer first (since I have a Mini itx and an outlet in my car, I can just test it out on-the-spot).

The 390X is actually competition for the 980, the 390 is competition for the 970, so the comparison isn't very good.

This is for the MSI version of the 390X, but it shows you about where the performance lies. Depending on the resolution the 390X comes in just below the 980 and at other resolutions, it beats it.

So the question is: For $50 is it worth it to you to get 980 class performance and a warranty.

Good luck with your plans :)
