Hello all, I have built approx. 50 systems in my day, but it has been several years since the last one. I am upgrading my old office Dell XPS 8700 (?) from around 2011 and realize that I am woefully unprepared for what the current / best options are for what I need.

I appreciate you reading below and offering your suggestions. Hopefully, this is a bit of fun, since it's not a budget build. Budget of $3000 isn't set in stone either.

Approximate Purchase Date: 1 month or sooner

Budget Range: $3000 before shipping

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Office, Photo/Video Editing

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: Everything except for monitors.

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com

Location: Orange, CA, USA

Parts Preferences: None

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Your Monitor Resolution: 2560x1440 & 1980x1080. Also have 4K display I may use instead of one of these.

Additional Comments: Prefer an understated case design. Noise isn't a huge issue, but of course, the quieter, the better. As much as possible, I'd like this to be future-proofed for the next 5 years or so. Don't really want to get into water-cooling unless necessary and/or it is much more reliable than in the past.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: My Dell is long in the tooth and I just need something with more firepower.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Three choices up front.

2011 socket, six core, DDR4 memory, GTX980 Ti

Xeon, ECC memory, Quadro or FirePro GFX

i7-4790K, 32GB, M.2 drive on MB, GTX 980 Ti

All of these options can be had for less that your budget and all will
serve the purpose and will scale well with minor upgrades for the
next few years if your past usage is any guage.

Or mix and match. All have the horsepower - some lean into corners and some
race down the straight, all will suffice for a long time like your old Dell.

I've only got one video bookmarked but YouTube has many from the likes
of Asus and Linus from NewEgg.

and another one that is static advice and ratings:

and the place most people set up an account to fiddle about with choices:

pcpartpicker.com

which with a little effort can be layed out on the forum here and tweaked as
you get advice on the best bang for your buck.

It would also help if you listed off your software. If you've been getting by with
an older processor and 8GB of RAM you're in for a real treat.

Thank you both for your replies. My standard software mostly includes the Microsoft Office suite and Adobe CC suite. Currently editing HD video can be a chore while using After Effects & Premiere. 4K barely plays at all. I guess I'm just looking for something that can work with 1080p effortlessly and 4K in the future. $3000 is my budget, but if I can get something that will satisfactorily meet my needs for the next 3-5 years for less, I'm all for it!

This will do all you want it to do and more.
