ok ya then a i7 2600k would be your best for the money. the 980x is way to expensive for the performance it gives

Well I wouldn't go with 980x I plan on going with the 980. The unlocked multiplier doesn't justify an additional $400

yeah i knw... but if you go the socket 1155 now... ecspecially when you buy one of asrock new p67 or z68 gen3 which has built in pcie 3.0 ready for future upgrade wouldn't that be much better so that you won't have to buy everything altogether the next time you may just want to upgrade lets say... graphics card only? since you want to go big i don't see why gulftown will be a better choice than sandy bridge... not that using sandy bridge setups couldn't handle games coming out for a while... i sitll think that i7 2600k or i5 2500k + 32gb ram + z68 extreme7 gen3 is a much better choice than gulftown... okay.. finally... even that the next time you make your upgrade is basically building a new computer altogether i still don't see gulftown is a better choice compared to sandy bridge... sandy bridge for right now is the best platform for both entertainment and office work....

You may be right the justification of gulftown is little. I could save money on the processor and go bigger on GPU!!!! ivy bridge uses 2011 socket so that avenue for upgrade would be dead too, but I do like the PCIe 3.0 and some current boards have implementation for it. I will look more into it today. This is why I post stuff like this to get insight!!!

Thanks!!!

you're welcome...
the schedule for next year release ivy bridge cpu is using the same sockets as sandy bridge... which is lga 1155... you can buy one of the z68 mobo in the market now and upgrade the cpu to ivy bridge if you feel want to ... the current z68 mobo in the market is sure to support next year cpu with a simple bios update... although intel will release a new z77 chipset together with launch of ivy bridge cpu...

i7 2600K - $315
ASRock Extreme3 Gen3 Z68 - $290
G.SKILL RipjawsX 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 - $100
ASUS GeForce GTX 590 (Fermi) 3072MB 768-bit GDDR5 - $750
Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB - $60
Optical Drive : Asus 24x DVD R/W - $20
COOLER MASTER HAF 932 Advanced RC-932-KKN5-GP Steel ATX Full Tower - $140
CoolerMaster Hyper 212+ - $30
Antec High Current Pro HCP-1200 1200W - $220
Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - $170

Total : $1995 after rebates

Add one more GTX 590 in SLI if you really need to spend the remaining money out. i7 980X is an outdated chip. It gets beaten by the 2600K almost everywhere. If you really need a six core i7, out for 2012 and get a LGA 2011 processor. (Ivy Bridge) One single GTX 590 is rock solid for 3D. Better than HD 6990 in that purpose.
