Hi, I'm planning a RAM upgrade (from a single channel 8Gb stick, so its long overdue)
and I have two candidates, the first would be https://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-3000c16d-16gisb with 3000Mhz cl16-18-18 timings the second: https://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/HX426C13PB3K2_16.pdf with 2666Mhz and cl13-15-15 timings. The second one is 25$ more expensive though. Do you think the tighter timings worth the 25$ price difference? Or if maybe the Kingston ram has better overclockability?
Thanks in advance!

Edit: my specs: Ryzen 2200G (planning an upgrade) with gigabyte b450m MoBo

Solution
There was nothing wrong with early Trident Z kits, AMD didn't have the BIOS code ready to support them properly, but all is good now.

works well yes and no.

F4-3200C16D-16GTZB on a X370 Tachi and a ASUS Prime B450-Plus

Update BIOS
Remove Battery
Boot... hey look im in single channel
Remove RAM
Remove battery
Reinstall everything and reboot.. All good.
do a basic overclock.... BSOD above 3333 and stuck in single channel again.
rinse and Repeat.
Give up, leave it at stock settings then your good for a few months when it decides to go single channel again. They work fantastic in my Z170 board and at 3400mhz without any issues. Bios updates may have helped compatibility but overclocking is still a big

Avoid Aegis on Ryzen
https://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-3000c16d-16gisb

You should also avoid

With a 2000 series APU, good luck getting them past what they are rated for.

Always look at your QVL http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Memory/mb_memory_b450m-ds3h_raven_20181220.pdf

Memory manufacturers also test too so check with them as well.

These work on all Ryzen boards that I have found.

G.SKILL Flare X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 2933 (PC4 23400) F4-2933C14D-16GFX
CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) CMK16GX4M2B3000C15
G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) F4-3000C15D-16GV

Early Trident Z are hit and miss and the RGB stuff that will work is probably to expensive for you since they typically run $30 more than what I listed above. As far as CL goes, you tend to get a little more headroom overclocking with a lower CL but for generally use at the same speeds you won't see a difference.

Wow thanks for the reply, but could you please elaborate on why do you think I should avoid the HyperX Predator HX426C13PB3K2_16 ? It actually is on the MoBo QVL list and I like the brand (but I admit I jumped on the AMD train just a few months ago) and another RAM Im thinking about is the 3333mhz variant of the same brand. So, are you suggesting that 3200Mhz+ RAM for the 2200G would not be a good idea?

They generally boot fine and under XMP2 using Memory Profile 1 hitting 3200mhz seems to be okay but getting past that with either Profile 1 or 2.. well I haven't had much luck with that on B450 boards especially Asus. Will they power on and hit rated speeds? Yes you should be fine with HyperX Predator or anything I listed.

I have 16 GB G.Skill TridentZ RGB 3200 ram (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR) that I purchased on 11/26/2018 that I run at 3400 MHz without any issues on my Asus ROG Strix B450-F Gaming MB (using BIOS 1201) with a Ryzen 5 2600 OC'd to 3.95 GHz.
Asus did list this exact model ram on their QVL which is why I bought them.
I will say that on BIOS version 0602 that came with my MB, they would run at 3200 MHz but not 3400 MHz.

My advice is to check your MB QVL list and the RAM manufacturers compatibility list and choose RAM that is on at least one, or better yet both of those lists.

@ delaro,
F4-3200C16D-16GTZR are on the QVL for the Asus B-450 Prime plus as well.
But F4-3200C16D-16GTZB are Not.
