From the reviews I've seen, the RTX 3060 Ti is a very capable 1080p/1440p GPU in its own right and only trails the RTX 3070 by around 10-15% depending on the situation.

The 9700k has 33% more cores than the 8600k and has higher boost clocks.

Seeing as how you're trying to play at sustained high refresh rates, I'd be more concerned about your CPU than your GPU (especially since the 6 threads of the 8600k might be limiting in some cases).

Your motherboard should be just fine with a 9700k. As a matter of fact, I see no reason why you need to leave your 9700k at stock clocks, as you should easily be able to overclock it to 5.0...

long term i would get better CPU as you can always replace GPU down the line, but thats just me.
Would you say it's okay for me to stay on asus prime z 370 a with a 9700k? I know a new motherboard would help but running it stock should work as good... right...?

well, motherboard supports 9700k on bios 1803 so i don't see why not.
